CUERO — Carlotta Martinez, 94, of Cuero, passed away Thursday, September 10, 2026. She was born December 27, 1931, in Cheapside to Bartholo and Tomasa Garza Martinez.
Aunt Carlotta was a gentle, steady presence in the lives of everyone who loved her. She was a devoted Catholic whose faith guided her daily life. She poured her heart into the things she made—quilts stitched with care, clothing sewn by her own hands, and tamales crafted from scratch the way her family had always known them. Those simple acts of love became traditions that shaped generations. For all of us who grew up sharing time, laughter, and meals with her, she will forever remain a source of comfort and belonging. Rest in peace, Aunt Carlotta—you will be deeply and lovingly missed.
She is survived by her sisters, Maria Martinez, Adela Martinez, and Severa Martinez; her brothers, Anselmo Martinez, Louis Martinez, Pete Martinez Sr., Bartholo Martinez Jr., and Manuel Martinez; along with numerous nieces and nephews, and her beloved dog, Trina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, as well as several brothers and sisters who went before her.
Pallbearers include Steven Sanchez, Larry D. Guerrero III, John Echols, Charlie Martinez, Christopher Rodriguez, and Felix Rocha Jr.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 18, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Freund Funeral Home, with a rosary to be recited at 9:30 AM. Funeral services will begin at 10:00 AM, officiated by Father Caleb Krischke. Interment will follow at San Miguel Cemetery in Thomaston.
