Born on August 9, 1944, in Houston, Paul built a successful career in sales before turning his lifelong passion for automobiles into the ownership and operation of several automobile dealerships. His unwavering work ethic, integrity, and commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of colleagues, employees, and customers throughout his life.
Paul is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cindy; his children, Mary Alice Holcomb and her husband, Rob Dechert; Paul Holcomb Jr. and his wife, Gina; Hunter McDonald and his wife, Suzanne; Hillary Peck and her husband, Crosby; and Courtney McDonald and her husband, Lee Flythe. Outside of work, Paul enjoyed fishing, hunting, and car racing. An accomplished off-road racer, he competed in several national off-road racing events, bringing home multiple victories. Whether he was on the water, in the field, or behind the wheel, Paul appreciated the challenge and camaraderie that came with the pursuits he loved.
Paul spent the majority of his life in Austin, where he had a successful career in the car business, raised his family, and made many cherished friendships. The last twenty years were spent in Cuero. He started Partners Chevrolet with his son, Paul, Jr. The dealership was a real family affair with his son-in-law, Crosby Peck, helping with its acquisition and start-up, and his daughter, MA, serving as Finance Manager for over ten years. He retired in 2019. His friendships in Cuero were extremely important to him, and he always loved his Friday night dinners at the Cuero Country Club. Paul loved visiting with friends and family and always had a great story to share.
Paul will be remembered for his strong work ethic, adventurous spirit, and genuine warmth. He had a wonderful personality, always wore a big smile, and had an easy way of making people feel welcome. His love of family, the outdoors, and friendly competition left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. He leaves behind many cherished memories and will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. According to his sons, Paul would know everything about you within ten minutes of meeting you…he was the ultimate interviewer and consummate salesman.
Paul’s community service began when he and Cindy moved to Cuero. He was a member of the Cuero Community Foundation, Cuero Rotary Club, a Board member and President of the Cuero Country Club, and a member of Grace Episcopal Church.
His infectious smile and hearty laugh will remain in our hearts forever.
