Aileen Cecilia Coffman, 96, of Nursery, passed away on August 19, 2026. She was born at her grandparent’s home in Pleasanton, Texas on September 30, 1929, to the late Vernon Robert “Pete” Coffman and Olivia Mary Ploch Coffman.
Aileen was preceded in death by her brothers, Lee Roy Coffman and Robert V. Coffman, and one sister, Lourene A. Coffman Nickles.
She graduated from Bruni High School in Bruni, Texas in 1949. She married Raymond V. Carter and they had two children, Walter R. Carter and Raymond V. Carter, Jr. Later she married Joe Dee Cornish, Jr. and they had two children, Shelvy A. Cornish and Joe Dee Cornish III. Her third marriage was to Bill Spell. Our mother raised us in the Lutheran faith.
She loved her flowers, dogs and cats; collected rocks from the Southwest USA; and enjoyed crocheting, needlework and quilting. She kept excellent geological records along with a daily diary. She loved camping on the Texas coast and in east Texas, as well as Colorado. Our mother loved country music and dancing!
She is survived by her four children, Walter Carter of Arizona, Ray Carter of Pipe Creek, Texas, Shelvy Cornish of Nursery, Texas, and Joe Cornish of Yoakum, Texas; five grandchildren; one adopted granddaughter, Chancee Bubela; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at a later date in Yorktown Westside Cemetery, Yorktown, Texas.
