Yoakum, Texas -The Yoakum Police Department, in coordination with Yoakum Independent School District (YISD), Yoakum Community Hospital, and the Yoakum Fire Department, will conduct a large‑scale reunification and emergency response drill on Thursday, August 6. The exercise will include an active‑shooter response scenario led by the Yoakum Police Department.
Throughout the day, residents can expect to see a heightened presence of law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and other first responders around Yoakum High School, the Yoakum Community Center, and Yoakum Community Hospital. Officials emphasize that the activity is strictly a training exercise and poses no threat to the public.
The coordinated drill is designed to strengthen interagency communication and improve emergency response procedures. Participants will practice critical incident protocols, including securing affected areas, providing medical support, and safely reuniting students with their families.
City and school officials say these exercises are essential for ensuring readiness in the event of a real emergency. They also expressed appreciation for the community’s patience and support as agencies work together to enhance public safety.
Residents are encouraged to remain aware of the training but not be alarmed by the increased emergency activity in the designated areas.
