Marjorie Helen Thamm Ideus – Aug 16, 1931 — Nov 3, 2026

Marjorie Helen Thamm Ideus passed from this earth into the arms of her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, November 3, 2026. She was born in Arneckeville on August 16, 1931 to Ruben and Marguerite Egg Thamm. Moving to Meyersville as a young child, she spent the majority of her life there along with most of the family.

She was a lifelong member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Meyersville, where she was baptized, confirmed and united in marriage to her sweetheart and life partner, Merton Lloyd Ideus on October 29, 1950. She was very active in the church, holding offices in the women’s group, leading and singing in the choir, but most important to her, was being the organist for over forty years.

She was dedicated to her music, practicing daily, teaching piano to many youngsters in the community and attending numerous workshops and trainings to hone her craft. She played for innumerable weddings for members of St. John’s family, friends and neighbors.

Marjorie was an excellent housewife, with “floors clean enough to eat off”, ironed pillowcases and was known for her hospitality, cooking and baking. Her memory will live on in recipes handed down to her children and grandchildren. She was a seamstress who sewed all her daughters’ clothes all through high school – always in trending fashions of the day, which they were proud to wear. Every child, grandchild and great-grandchild had a felt sequined, embroidered stocking on her mantle at Christmas time.

She was a full partner in the Ideus Dairy Farm, where she worked side by side with Merton in the dairy barn and in the fields. She supported him in his biggest pastime, baseball, by attending every game and being the official scorekeeper. The boys on his teams can tell you, she was quick to mark an error in the books if it was deserved and stingy with the hits! They truly lived life together for their sixty-seven years of marriage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merton Ideus; her brothers, Wayne Thamm and David Thamm; sister-in-law, Yvonne Thamm; brother and sister-in-law, Reuben and Virgie Gohmert; sons, Baby Boy Ideus and Michael Keith Ideus; son-in-law, Bill Mayfield and grandson-in-law, Kerry Giles.

Left to mourn her passing and celebrate her life are her daughters, Sherryl “Sherry” Sanders (Fred), Patricia “Trish” Hood; her son, Jonathan Ideus (Rhonda), all of Meyersville; grandchildren, Merti Joy Giles and Jenny Sanders of Victoria, Chris Ideus (Loni), Kendra Mayfield of Meyersville and Danielle Egg (Adam) of Victoria; step-grandson, Todd Mayfield (Stephanie) of Port Lavaca; ten great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Patsy Thamm and many nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers include Adam Egg, Danielle Egg, Gordon Gohmert, Christopher Ideus, Kendra Mayfield and Darren Otto.

Honorary Pallbearers include Merti Joy Giles, Loni Ideus, Todd Mayfield and Jenny Sanders.

Visitation will be held Saturday, November 7, 2026, 9:00 AM at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Meyersville. Funeral Services will begin at 10:00 AM with Rev. John Boor officiating. Interment will follow at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Meyersville or the St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Meyersville Organ Fund.
