Rev. Marilyn Kay von Roeder-Kunkel, born May 28, 1955, was called home on June 24, 2026.

Marilyn was a woman of faith, service, and compassion. She was born and raised in Yorktown, Texas, to Bobby James and Billie Jeanne von Roeder, where she developed the values of kindness, hard work, and dedication to her community that would define her life.

Marilyn studied at Sam Houston State University before beginning her career serving the students and faculty of Yorktown High School as a librarian. She found great joy in encouraging a love of learning, touching the lives of countless young people through her patience and caring spirit.

Answering God’s call to ministry, Marilyn later became a pastor and faithfully served the congregation of First United Methodist Church in Victoria, Texas. Through her heartfelt preaching, unwavering faith, and compassionate ministry, she provided comfort, guidance, and hope to many throughout the years.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford George Kunkel, her beloved parents, and sister, Beverly Ann.

She is survived by her son James & wife Dina, grandchildren Garrett & Grace, and her brother Russell von Roeder & wife Roxanne. She also leaves behind many extended family members, dear friends, former colleagues, and members of the congregations she faithfully served.

Marilyn will be remembered for her gentle heart, steadfast faith, and her unwavering commitment to serving others. Her legacy of kindness, wisdom, and Christian devotion will continue to live on in all who were blessed to know her.

Pallbearers are James Menn, Garrett Menn, Clay von Roeder, Don Pulliam, Cody Geffert, and Cody Bass. Honorary pallbearers are Russell von Roeder and Walter Gohmert.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2026, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. at Massey Funeral Home in Yorktown, Texas. A graveside service will immediately follow at Westside Cemetery in Yorktown.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Rio Texas Conference of the United Methodist Church, 16400 Huebner Road, San Antonio, Texas 78248.
