The Cuero Gobblers football team received a timely motivational boost this week when Kaeron Johnson, Assistant Athletic Director for Football Relations at Baylor University and a 2008 Cuero High School graduate, addressed the players in a virtual appearance. Whether live or prerecorded, Johnson’s message reached the team roughly a few short hours before their upcoming Friday night game, offering guidance rooted in discipline, character, and tradition.
Johnson spoke about what he called the “three solids of being a champion,” principles he said apply both on the field and in everyday life:
- Tough — handling any situation life throws your way with resilience.
- Smart — making choices that move you closer to your goals.
- Dependable — consistently being where you’re supposed to be and doing what you’re supposed to do, earning trust through reliability.
He reminded the players that wearing Cuero’s green and white places them in a lasting brotherhood — one that supports them far beyond their high school years. Johnson encouraged the Gobblers to mentally walk through their reads and responsibilities before the game, telling them that visualizing success helps create it on the field.
In a moment that energized the team, Johnson noted that during his own playing career, he went 4–0 against the Bulldogs, calling that record “the standard” for the Gobblers moving forward.
Coaches and players praised Johnson’s virtual appearance for its clarity, impact, and connection to Cuero’s long‑standing football culture.
