Cuero, Tx -Shortly after 11 p.m. on August 20, officers were dispatched to the 200 block of W. Broadway for a collision involving a Buick four‑door sedan and a Chrysler four‑door. When officers arrived, they found that one of the vehicles had veered off the road and landed in the yard of a home at the corner of N. Indianola and W. Broadway, stopping just a few feet short of the house. No injuries were reported.
According to investigators, the Buick—driven by an individual whose name is being withheld pending confirmation that a minor was not involved—was traveling south on Indianola when it disregarded the stop sign at W. Broadway. The Buick struck the Chrysler, causing the impact that pushed the vehicle into the nearby yard.
During the investigation, officers determined that alcohol was likely a contributing factor. The driver was arrested on two misdemeanor charges: Driving While Intoxicated and Unlawful Carrying of a Weapon. He was transported to the DeWitt County Jail.

However, the name provided by police does not currently appear in the DeWitt County Sheriff’s Office public records of individuals detained or arrested, and the department has not yet clarified the discrepancy.
The department noted that officers routinely patrol the W. Broadway corridor due to ongoing concerns about speeding and cut‑through traffic in residential areas. Police urged residents and motorists to remain mindful of posted speed limits and the high volume of pedestrian and bicycle activity along the roadway.
The incident renewed concerns among neighbors who have repeatedly voiced worries about vehicles traveling too fast through the area—concerns underscored by how close this crash came to reaching a home.
