YOAKUM: Sylvia Rosas Rivera, 101, passed away Sunday, July 26, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born July 4, 1925, in Nuevo Laredo to the late Gregorio and Genoveva (Garcia) Rosas.
Sylvia married Joe Rivera on January 22, 1955, and became the best wife and mother to their six children. She was the first to rise in the morning and the last one to bed at night. She and Joe were married for 66 years until his passing in October 2021.
She is survived by her daughters, Elsa Rivera (Henry) of Pearland and Becky Garcia of Yoakum; sons, Joe Roy Rivera (Minnie) of Yoakum, Robert Rivera (Delores) of Katy and Martin Rivera (Nuvia) of Hallettsville; five grandchildren, Geneva Ulch, Monica Garcia, Amy Flores, Stacey Rivera and Joe R. Rivera Jr; two great-grandchildren, Zoe Flores and Liam Flores.
Preceded in death by her parents; husband Joe Rivera; daughter, Rosie Rivera; sister, Maria Munoz; brothers, Jose Juan Rosas and Gregorio Rosas.
There was a rosary and a funeral Mass on July 29, 2026 at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Rev. Matthew Huehlefeld officiating. She was burial at Guadalupe Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Frank Flores, Joe Rivera Jr., Rick Thomas Medina, Henry Burns, David Ray Rivera, Juan Rosas, Noel Medina, and Rene Zamora.
Honorary Pallbearers are Rudy Moreno, Liam Flores and Zoe Flores.
Memorials may be given to St. Joseph Catholic Church.
