DEWITT COUNTY AND AREA HIGHLIGHTS

CUERO

  • Cuero City Mayor Emil Garza proposes the formation of a Youth Council and is accepting applicants from Junior and Senior High School Students.
  • In mid-September the Cuero Turkeyfest and City of Cuero delegation along with their star athlete Ruby Begonia head to Worthington Minnesota for their King Turkey Day celebration.  The show down begins in the Great Gobbler Gallop Ruby Begonia VS  Paycheck!!!
  • The Cuero High School track will be open to the community EVERY WEDNESDAY FROM 6-8 PM. Please use the reserved parking area for access and remember to sign in on the sheet at the entrance.   • Lavaca and Dewitt Democratic Women’s Club to hold a Meet and Greet the Candidates Wednesday September 11, 2024 @ 5:00 pm-7:00pm at Millie’s -on Main Street 115 E. Main Street, Cuero, Texas.

  • During Commissioner’s Court a new full-time position paying $42,000 was approved for the DeWitt County Election’s Office.
  • The Dewitt County commissioners voted to approve a tax rate of $.36601 per $100 valuation.

YOAKUM

  • Yoakum will celebrate its 137th Birthday with a downtown street dance Saturday, September 21st, from 7-11pm at the 200 block of West Grand Avenue

YORKTOWN

  • Yorktown Chamber of Commerce is holding TRIVIA NIGHT benefitting the Yorktown Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Fund.  Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 8- 10pm @ Gasch’s Place in Yorktown 101 S. Eckhart Street.  Prizes for top three winners. Blowin’ Smoke BBQ available as well as wine and beer. $15 single or $25 pair.

WEESATCHE 

  • Bake Sale for Veterans, Saturday September 14, 2024 @the Weesatche Hermann Sons will hold a bake sale at the Weesatche 4 Warriors Event at the Weesatche Community Center 161 FM 884, Goliad, Tx.  All proceeds will benefit local veteran and first responder groups.
