JoAnn Winkenwerder, 75, was starting her day Saturday, October 10, 2026, with the Pilot Club sponsored Alzheimer’s Walk, when God chose to call her home. In the blink of an eye, life changed, and her work on earth is done.
She was born January 23, 1951 in Shiner to Adolph and Henrietta (Smahlik) Seidenberger. She graduated from Shiner High School in 1969. Then married Victor Winkenwerder and raised four daughters. After raising her family, she went to college and earned a degree in education. She retired from Moulton ISD after 20 years of dedication to the education field. She has always been committed to volunteering in the community. She was a member of Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, Pilot Club and Great State Republicans. She also enjoyed her book club and bunco groups. Above all she was always available for her daughters and grandchildren. She married Victor Winkenwerder August 29, 1970, and they spent the next 43 years working together, until his death in 2013. She was a kind, gentle person who enjoyed bunco nights, watching others be happy and being with her family and friends. It was the simple things that always made her smile.
Survivors are her daughters; Christine Siegel (Kenneth) of Shiner, Tammy Winkenwerder of Shiner, Shelley Winkenwerder of Shiner and Sarah Arriaga (Thomas) of Wharton; four grandchildren, Kaleb Siegel, Emma Siegel, Tyler Arriaga and Cadence Arriaga; sisters, Suzanne Sestak (Albert) and Bernice Motal (Dan); her beloved fur babies, Lucy, Fiona and Astro; and all her extended family and all her friends.
Preceded in death by her parents Adolph and Henrietta Seidenberger; husband Victor Winkenwerder; sister, Jeanette Edmondson.
Rosary was recited with Funeral Mass at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church with Rev. Jacob Mendoza officiating. Burial to follow at Shiner Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Catholic Daughters, Pilot Club, or Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church.
