YOAKUM — The Yoakum City Council formally accepted the resignation of City Manager Michael Mitchell during its special meeting on August 24, marking a significant shift in the city’s administrative leadership. Mitchell’s departure comes as Yoakum continues to navigate budget planning, infrastructure priorities, and long‑term development goals that will shape the city’s next several years.
Pat Matusek was selected as interim city manager. Matusek, who holds an engineering degree from Texas A&M University, brings a technical background and experience with municipal projects that council members say will help maintain continuity during the transition.
As interim manager, Matusek will oversee daily administration, coordinate with department heads, and ensure ongoing projects remain on schedule while the council determines its process for hiring a permanent city manager. Leadership changes at this level often influence staffing, planning timelines, and fiscal priorities, making the council’s next steps especially important for Yoakum’s future direction.
