Sister M. Mildred Truchard, 89, died on October 3, 2026. She was born May 13, 1937, in Sealy, TX, to the late Joe and Lillie (Schneider) Truchard. She was the eldest in a family of two girls and five boys.
Sister Mildred attended Mentz Public School and Columbus High School and Nazareth Academy from which she graduated. She entered Nazareth Convent and became a postulant on December 8, 1954, received the habit on August 24, 1955, and professed her first vows on August 6, 1957. She received a BA degree with a major in English and a minor in History and an MA degree with a major in Biology and a minor in Education from Incarnate Word College in San Antonio. She earned a Masters of Education in Administration from Our Lady of the Lake University and an MA in Pastoral Ministry from Oblate School of Theology both in San Antonio.
During her 69 years as a professed member of the congregation, Sister Mildred ministered as a teacher and/or principal at St. Michael School in Weimer, Immaculate Conception School and Sealy Public School in Sealy, St. Leo School and Blessed Sacrament Academy in San Antonio, Sacred Heart in Hallettsville, St. Joseph High School and Nazareth Academy in Victoria. She was instrumental in opening a Multi-Learning Center as an alternative high school at Blessed Sacrament Academy in 1989. Then she was in parish ministry at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Ganado. She also served as Local Superior at Incarnate Word Convent and as a General Councilor from 2008-2012 and served as a Vocation Director for a number of years.
Sister Mildred’s hobbies included gardening, painting, arts and crafts and reading. She used her computer skills with the formulation and updating of the IWBS web page for the Congregation and shared her Sisterly Thoughts in the Victoria Diocesan newspaper, The Catholic Lighthouse. She has resided at Incarnate Word Convent Health Care since 2022.
Sister Mildred was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Francis John Truchard and Denis Truchard. She is survived by her sister Anne Marie Linville (Jim) and brothers Anthony Truchard (Jo Ann), Joseph Truchard (Sally), James Truchard (Marci), and sisters-in-law Barbara and Nancy, many nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews. Pallbearers and honorary pallbearers will be nieces and nephews of Sister Mildred.
Visitation and rosary will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 8, at Incarnate Word Convent and a Wake Service with Evening Praise and Sharing of Memories will be held at 6:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Incarnate Word Convent on Friday, October 9, with Bishop Brendan Cahill as presider. Burial will follow at Catholic Cemetery #3.
Memorial donations may be made to Incarnate Word Convent, Blessed Sacrament Academy, Nazareth Academy, Hospice of South Texas, or donor’s choice.
