CHS Choir Students Make Big Strides at TMEA Competition in San Antonio

By Pat Trevino | 10/2/2026

The Cuero High School choir traveled to San Antonio on Saturday, September 26, where students advanced past the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA) audition process — one of the most respected and competitive music‑education events in the state. In these auditions, high school vocalists perform individually for judges, hoping to progress through multiple rounds that lead toward the prestigious Texas All‑State Choir. Advancing is a significant accomplishment that reflects each student’s discipline, preparation, and growing musical talent. But one of the brightest moments of the day didn’t happen in the audition room. It happened afterward, in a single burst of excitement from their director, Tertia Cain, whose joyful leap captured exactly how proud she was of her students’ success.

A candid snapshot captured Cain mid‑jump, her face lit with pure joy as she celebrated her students’ success. It was the kind of reaction that speaks louder than any announcement — a teacher overflowing with pride, thrilled to see her students rise to the challenge and represent Cuero with confidence.

The San Antonio trip capped weeks of preparation and focused rehearsals under Cain’s guidance. Her commitment to her students shows in every detail: the encouragement she gives, the standards she sets, and the way she celebrates every milestone, big or small. Advancing past the TMEA round is a testament not only to the students’ talent, but also to the strong leadership she brings to the program.

For the choir members, the day was a chance to perform, grow, and experience the excitement of competition. For Cain, it was a moment of heartfelt celebration — the kind that lifts her off the ground and reminds everyone how deeply she cares about her students’ success.

A joyful leap, a proud teacher, and a successful Saturday in San Antonio — a perfect reflection of Cuero High School choir spirit.
