At the regular meeting of the Green DeWitt Drainage District held on September 21, 2026, Board President Doug Sethness announced his resignation following ten years of service to the District. Sethness, who has led the board through numerous drainage improvements and long‑range planning efforts, made the announcement immediately after returning from an executive session he had requested.
Sethness was first appointed to the Green DeWitt Drainage District Board in July 2016 and has served as President for much of his tenure. His background includes a distinguished 37‑year career in the U.S. Army as a civil engineer, where he designed and developed seaports around the world. He holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in engineering from the University of Texas.

A resident of Cuero since 1999, Sethness is known locally for his restoration work on a historic home and his steady involvement in community affairs. His leadership on the board has been marked by collaboration with county officials, oversight of drainage infrastructure serving more than 13,000 acres, and a commitment to improving flood resilience throughout the district.
The Board expressed appreciation for Sethness’s decade of service and acknowledged the significant contributions he made during his time in office. The District will move forward with its established procedures to address the vacancy and ensure continuity in governance.
