The Cuero Police Department has released new information following recent trespassing incidents at the historic Daule School building, after a video posted on the department’s Facebook page showed several individuals walking through the property, which is not open to the public.
According to Chief Ellis, officers believe the individuals entered the Daule School through open or damaged windows, then left the building through interior doors that can be opened from the inside but remain locked from the outside. Because the structure has been unused for an extended period and shows significant deterioration, investigators say it is difficult to determine whether any interior damage is new or pre‑existing.
Police report that no items have been documented as stolen.

In a separate incident responded to by officers, several individuals were identified and issued trespass notices. Those involved were juveniles, and their identities cannot be released. However, Chief Ellis noted that the individuals shown in the Facebook video appear to be young adults, not juveniles.
While the video does not establish motive, Chief Ellis emphasized that any entry into a building without the owner’s consent—particularly one not open to the public—constitutes a criminal offense. Most of the unauthorized entries are believed to have occurred during late evening or early morning hours.
To prevent further incidents, the Cuero Police Department has increased patrols in the area and is actively checking for unsecured access points. Building owners are also taking steps to reinforce security and reduce opportunities for entry.
The department has asked for community assistance in identifying individuals shown in the posted video. Potential charges for those involved could include Criminal Trespass, Criminal Mischief, or Burglary if property is taken.
Chief Ellis confirmed that building owners are currently working to secure the structure. Additional public updates will be released if criminal charges are filed. Trespass notices have already been issued to those identified, and any further unauthorized entry will result in charges.
