Manfred M. “Mannie” Scheurich died on June 21, 2026, in Yorktown, Texas. He was born in Yorktown on November 20, 1935, to August L. Scheurich, Sr., and Matilda Mueller Scheurich.
Mannie was preceded in death by his parents and four siblings: Adolph, August L. “A. L.” Scheurich, Jr., Beulah Mueller, and Dorris Marlow.
He is survived by his wife, Venice Ann Kolodziejczyk Scheurich, whom he married in 1955 in Nordheim, Texas, his son Hal Scheurich (Anne) of Daphne, Alabama, grandchildren Jeffery Scheurich of New York City, Madeline and Krista Scheurich of Daphne, Alabama, and Mina Williams, the family’s longtime friend from Corpus Christi, Texas.
Mannie graduated from Yorktown High School in 1954, and shortly thereafter went to work for Central Power and Light Co., where he had a long, rewarding career as an auditor. He served in the Army for two years, after which he and Venice made their home in Corpus Christi. They often went to Nordheim, her hometown, where they enjoyed gardening and sharing time with family and friends.
After his retirement, Venice and Mannie bought a small country place near Runge where he liked observing wildlife and using his tractor. As time passed and his health care needs increased, he moved to Nordheim because the house there could be made compatible with those needs.
Mannie stayed close to his roots: He loved God, his family, and his country. He was a modest, kind, generous, and loving man. As his physical health deteriorated and his mobility became severely limited, he was brave and strong and faced his increasing limitations with grace and dignity.
The family is grateful to Glenn and Barbara Miesen of Nordheim for their loving care of Mannie in his later years. Glenn, in particular, was ever present and devoted to Mannie, and the family extends to him their special gratitude.
The family also wishes to express appreciation to the Yorktown Nursing Home staff for their care over the past two years.
At Mannie’s request, there will be no formal service.
