CUERO, Texas — Seventeen Cuero High School seniors were recently recognized for completing the CTE Culinary Arts pathway, earning their graduation cords in a ceremony led by Culinary Arts instructor Laura Notaro.
To receive this distinction, students must complete the program’s four‑course culinary sequence and pass the ServSafe Food Managers certification, a nationally recognized credential demonstrating advanced food‑safety knowledge and industry‑level proficiency. The achievement marks four years of rigorous training, hands‑on experience, and a commitment to professional standards in the culinary field.
As part of the celebration, advanced culinary students and graduating seniors were treated to a catered brisket lunch prepared by the Mid‑Coast Cookers BBQ Team, led by Dwain Garber, father of current culinary student Trevor Garber. The meal underscored the strong community support behind the program and the close‑knit culture within the culinary department.
Each senior also received a custom apron featuring the class logo, along with a set of kitchen utensils to support their continued culinary journey. Notaro—who affectionately says she “adopts” all of her culinary seniors—presented the gifts as a personal sendoff and a reminder that they will always remain part of her culinary family.
The celebration was funded through student‑led catering projects completed throughout the school year, giving students real‑world experience in menu planning, food preparation, service, and teamwork while helping sustain program activities.
