Update: Cuero Record Confirms Printing Continues Despite Office Closure

By Pat Treviño | April 28, 2026

Times Media Group President Steve Strickbine reached out to me directly yesterday evening to clarify the status of The Cuero Record following community concerns about whether the newspaper was still being printed. According to Strickbine, the Record continues to publish its print edition, and subscriptions remain available, despite the closure of the longtime Main Street office.

Strickbine explained that the office was shut down because the building remains under the ownership of former publisher Jim Moser, who plans to sell the property. With no local facility, the Record no longer maintains a newsroom or staff presence in DeWitt County. For now, the Cuero Chambers of Commerce are assisting by allowing readers and advertisers to pick up newspapers and make payments at their offices.

While printing continues, there are no known full‑time reporters assigned to cover DeWitt County, and TMG has not indicated when — or if — a dedicated local journalist will be hired. Strickbine said the company is still evaluating staffing needs across Texas after acquiring more than 30 newspapers, relying heavily on a statewide network of freelancers whose availability for Cuero coverage remains uncertain.

Strickbine also noted that the DeWitt County Historical Commission may contact TMG to pick up any remaining photographs still in the company’s possession. He added that arrangements can be made with staff for anyone needing to retrieve additional photos or historical materials that were part of The Cuero Record’s archives — at least while they still have access to the building.

For now, the message to the community is clear: The Cuero Record continues to print and continues to offer subscriptions, but the future of its local reporting footprint — and its long‑term presence in DeWitt County — remains unsettled.
