CUERO — A century of faith, family, and celebration will be on full display as Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church hosts its 100th Annual Jamaica on Sunday, September 6, at 207 Graham Street. The milestone event brings together generations of parishioners, neighbors, and visitors for a day that blends cultural tradition with community fellowship.
The church grounds will open late morning with one of the Jamaica’s most anticipated staples: BBQ chicken plates served at 11 a.m. for $15. Tamales, another longtime favorite, will be available by the dozen for $16. As in past years, food remains at the heart of the celebration, drawing families who have made the Jamaica part of their Labor Day weekend for decades.
At 1 p.m., the live auction begins — a highlight known for its spirited bidding and wide assortment of donated goods. A raffle, silent auction, country store, and cake walk will run throughout the day, offering plenty of opportunities for visitors to participate and support the parish. Outdoor games and activities will keep children entertained, reinforcing the event’s family‑friendly atmosphere.
Music has always been central to the Jamaica, and this year’s lineup reflects both tradition and variety. DJ Tony and DJ Snakeman will provide lively mixes, while Johnny Gonzales y su Conjunto and Los Amigos ASG bring the conjunto and Tejano sounds that have long been part of the community’s cultural identity. Their performances are expected to carry the celebration well into the evening.
For parishioners, the 100th Annual Jamaica is more than a fundraiser — it is a testament to the endurance of a community that has gathered for a century to share food, faith, and fellowship. The event’s familiar slogan, “Food, Fun, Faith & Community,” captures the spirit that has sustained it from its earliest days to this landmark year.
Residents of Cuero and surrounding areas are invited to join in commemorating this historic celebration and supporting the parish as it begins its next century of service.
