Board member Maddy Schroller Langford of Friends of DeWitt County Children took part in the Mental Health Awareness Month kickoff event held earlier this week at Cuero High School, where students, staff, and community partners gathered for a morning focused on education, support, and visibility.
The event centered on walking the track, sharing mental‑health resources, and encouraging open conversations about emotional well‑being. Participants emphasized the importance of recognizing signs of struggle, reducing stigma, and ensuring that students know help is available.
Organizers noted that having leadership present reinforces the message that mental health is a community priority, not just a school initiative. The kickoff marks the beginning of a month‑long effort to highlight awareness, prevention, and access to support services for young people and families in Cuero.
As Mental Health Awareness Month continues, local organizations and schools plan to host additional activities aimed at promoting resilience, connection, and early intervention.
