“We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.” Winston Churchill’s words rang especially true this April as Yoakum Community Hospital celebrated National Volunteer Month and recognized the dedicated members of its long‑standing Auxiliary Club.
Founded in 1933, the Auxiliary has been a pillar of service for more than nine decades, supporting patients, families, and hospital staff through countless hours of volunteer work. Today, the group’s well‑known Pink Ladies continue that legacy, operating the hospital gift shop and offering encouragement, kindness, and comfort to everyone who walks through the doors.
This year’s honored volunteers include: Jea

nnette, Polly, Gloria, Joyce, Mary, and Elaine, whose commitment keeps the Auxiliary’s mission thriving. Hospital leadership expressed deep gratitude for their selfless contributions, noting that their presence brings both practical support and heartfelt warmth to the facility.
The Auxiliary remains open to new members and encourages community participation from those who feel called to serve. Volunteers play a vital role in rural healthcare, where personal connection and compassion are often just as important as clinical care.
Residents can learn more about the Auxiliary Club and volunteer opportunities through the hospital’s website.
