Norma Jane “Nonie” Farr, 84, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2026. She was born on March 17, 1941, to the late Ernest Weldon and Lois Mildred Cogburn Farr. Raised in Fort Worth, she remained forever proud of being a “Cowtown girl.”
Nonie graduated from Amon Carter High School in 1959 and, in 1961, began the career she had always dreamed of—serving as a flight attendant for American Airlines. Over the course of her remarkable forty‑two‑year career, she was based in Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Dallas–Fort Worth. She witnessed many historic moments in aviation, including the events of 9/11, but often spoke most fondly of her service in the late 1960s flying Military Airlift Command (MAC) missions. Aboard 707 charter flights, she and her crew transported troops between major U.S. hubs and Pacific bases, including Kadena Air Force Base in Okinawa. From there, they ferried young servicemen in and out of Da Nang, Vietnam—passengers she always considered the most precious of her career.
After retiring from American Airlines in 2002, Nonie embraced life at her beloved farm in South Texas. There, surrounded by the land she loved, she created some of her most memorable artwork and enjoyed some of her happiest years.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernie and Lois; her cherished MaMaw Farr; and dear friends Sandra Pullin and Lynn Morgan.
Nonie is survived by her devoted partner of forty‑two years, Trish Griffith; her sister, Linda Croker (Gary); nephew, Darren Heppel; niece, Jerrilynn Heppel Lowenthal; the Pullin/Thomas family; and many other relatives and friends who will miss her deeply.
A celebration of Nonie’s life was held at Freund Funeral Home on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. A private burial will follow at a later date at La Rosa Cemetery in Woodsboro.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Home Instead, Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center of Compassion in Victoria, and Advanced Home Health of Hallettsville for their exceptional care and kindness.
