CUERO, Texas — Pet Adoptions of Cuero (PAOC) brought smiles, stories, and plenty of furry charm to the English‑German Schoolhouse at the Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum last week during the museum’s monthly Cowpoke Story Time event.
Local children’s book author and illustrator Marsha Edmands headlined the program, sharing the heartwarming tale of her adopted puppy, Raisin, from the PAOC shelter. More than 30 children and parents filled the beautifully restored historic schoolhouse to hear Raisin’s story and participate in hands‑on activities.

Young attendees enjoyed a lively reading, followed by a special meet‑and‑greet with both the author and the now‑famous canine star, Raisin. Each child had their photo taken with the pair and created colorful, custom picture frames during the craft session. As a playful touch, every child also received a box of real raisins featuring Raisin’s photo on the label.
The Chisholm Trail Heritage Museum continues to host Cowpoke Story Time as part of its mission to provide free, educational, and family‑friendly programming for the community. Museum staff coordinated the event at no cost to participants, offering a welcoming space for early learning and creative exploration.

PAOC volunteers were honored to participate and brought along several small kittens for the children to pet and cuddle, adding an extra layer of excitement to the morning.
Edmands’ book, “Raisin, the Last Puppy Chosen,” is available on Amazon and at the PAOC shelter, with all proceeds benefiting the nonprofit’s rescue and adoption efforts.
The event showcased the strong partnership between local organizations working together to support literacy, history, and animal welfare in DeWitt County.
