Another One Bites The Dust! Montana Man Gets Prison Time for Role in Insurrection at US Capitol

According to the Associated Press a Montana businessman gets 2 years in prison for his role on Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection at the US Capitol.  The Montana business owner and supporter of former President and convicted felon Donald Trump has been sentenced to two years in federal prison for his role in the Jan 6, 2021, insurrection at the U.S. Capitol that interrupted certification of the 2020 Electoral College vote.

Prosecutors stated that Muntzer became violent with law enforcement when they tried to remove him from the Senate chamber and the Capitol Rotunda.  He was one of the final individuals to exit the area.

Henry Phillip “Hank” Muntzer, 55, from Dillon, received a sentence on Thursday that includes a year of supervised release and a restitution payment of $2,000. Arrested two weeks following the Capitol siege, Muntzer’s detention was due to evidence from social media posts and videos recorded within the Capitol, as per court documents.

In February, he was convicted of obstructing an official proceeding and civil disorder, both felonies, after a bench trial presided over by U.S. District Court Judge Jia M. Cobb. Additionally, Muntzer was convicted of four misdemeanors. Nevertheless, the felony charge of obstructing an official proceeding was dropped prior to sentencing due to a U.S. Supreme Court decision in June, which tightened the criteria for prosecuting such charges.

Prosecutors provided evidence showing that Muntzer, along with friends, traveled to Washington for the “Stop the Steal” rally. Following Trump’s speech at the Ellipse, Muntzer was part of the crowd that proceeded to the Capitol and remained inside for approximately 38 minutes.

More than 1500 people have been federally charged with their participation in the insurrection.  According to the Texas Tribune dozens of Texans were charged for their role in the riot.
