Earthquake, Measles, DOJ Under Trump Control, and Defunding Public Schools

February 15,2025 – A 5.0 magnitude earthquake was detected in western Texas Friday night, according to the United States Geological Surveyhttps://cnn.it/42TXAdh  The earthquake at 10:23 p.m. MT (11:23 p.m. CT) had a depth of roughly 4.1 miles, with its epicenter 33 miles northwest of Toyah, Texas –– a town around 160 miles east of El Paso.  Aftershocks were detected within five minutes near the same location, according to the USGS.

In rural West Texas, a measles outbreak grows with no end in sight

At least 49 cases have been confirmed. Health officials — who are scrambling to get a handle on the vaccine-preventable outbreak — suspect 200 to 300 people may be infected.

Trump officials fired nuclear staff not realizing they oversee the country’s weapons stockpile, sources say

Trump administration officials fired more than 300 staffers Thursday night at the National Nuclear Security Administration — the agency tasked with managing the nation’s nuclear stockpile — as part of broader Energy Department layoffs, according to four people with knowledge of the matter.   An Energy Department spokesperson disputed the number of personnel affected, claiming that “less than 50 people” were “dismissed” from NNSA, and that the dismissed staffers “held primarily administrative and clerical roles.”The agency began rescinding the terminations Friday morning.

Justice Department Employee’s Resign Rather Than drop a case because of Trump’s Politics

Trump’s tightened control over the Justice Department has resulted in high level employee’s walking off their job rather than look the other way and drop the corruption charges against New York City Mayor, Eric Adams.  Known Republican, Danielle Sassoon’s Manhattan’s U.S. Acting Attorney resigned Thursday after she was ordered to drop the case against the mayor.

Then, when Justice Department officials transferred the case to the public integrity section in Washington, which oversees corruption prosecutions, the two men who led that unit also resigned, according to five people with knowledge of the matter.

Several hours later, three other lawyers in the unit also resigned, according to people familiar with the developments.

The departures of the U.S. attorney, Danielle R. Sassoon, and the officials who oversaw the Justice Department’s Public Integrity Section, Kevin O. Driscoll and John Keller, came in rapid succession on Thursday. Days earlier, the acting No. 2 official at the Justice Department, Emil Bove III, had ordered Manhattan prosecutors to drop the case against Mr. Adams.

The agency’s justification for dropping the case was explicitly political; Mr. Bove had argued that the investigation would prevent Mr. Adams from fully cooperating with President Trump’s immigration crackdown. Mr. Bove made a point of saying that Washington officials had not evaluated the strength of the evidence or the legal theory behind the case.

Ms. Sassoon, in a remarkable letter addressed to Attorney General Pam Bondi, said that Mr. Bove’s order to dismiss the case was “inconsistent with my ability and duty to prosecute federal crimes without fear or favor and to advance good-faith arguments before the courts.”

“I have always considered it my obligation to pursue justice impartially, without favor to the wealthy or those who occupy important public office, or harsher treatment for the less powerful,” she said. “I therefore deem it necessary to the faithful discharge of my duties to raise the concerns expressed in this letter with you and to request an opportunity to meet to discuss them further.”

Did Gov. Abbott just admit that school vouchers will defund public schools?

“The people defunding public schools are PARENTS choosing a better option than what their assigned school provides,” Gov. Abbott said.”Texas Governor ‘admits’ school choice could defund public schools
