Richard C. Gilliam – February 28, 1943 to April 6, 2025 (82)
SHINER: Richard C. Gilliam, 82, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2025. He was born February 28, 1943 in Rosenberg, TX to Otis Henry Gilliam and Audrey Mae (Lott).
He was a veteran having served in the Army Reserves. Richard worked most of his life in the oilfields of Texas. He was a historian and his hobby was restoring guns. He leaves behind his loving wife of sixty years, Shirley Gilliam.
Survivors: wife, Shirley Gilliam of Shiner; sons, Russel Gilliam of Shiner and Travis Gilliam (Donna) of Alvin, TX; sister, Dr. Maurice Wilkinson of Shiner; granddaughters, Elizabeth Gilliam, Lauren Gilliam, and Amanda Gilliam; two great grandchildren Codi and Kasen Gilliam.
Preceded in death by his parents..

Fast-Track EMT Classes Offered in Victoria, TX: A Gateway to Emergency Medical Services
Victoria, TX – DeTar Medical Plaza North is set to host a fast-track Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program from May 27 to July 31, 2025. Designed to prepare aspiring EMTs efficiently, these accelerated courses will take place four nights a week, Monday through Thursday, from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Under the guidance of Chris Ramirez, Jr., LP, EMS Program Director, the program will include comprehensive National Registry Exam preparation, offering students a robust curriculum that ensures readiness for certification and real-world applications.
The program is also offering flexible payment plans to make the classes accessible to a broader range of individuals passionate about entering the healthcare field. SHINER: Kathleen Johanna “Kathy” Garcia, age 76, passed away Monday, April 7, 2025. She was born November 24, 1948 in Houston to Adolf and Irene (Goetz) Darilek. She was a hairstylist, cafeteria manager at St. Paul School and was a cashier at Dollar General.
She always loved any time spent with her family & friends. She had a passion for baking & cooking, not to mention, she was very good at it and everyone in Shiner could vouch for that. She also enjoyed crocheting and doing arts & crafts with her loved ones.
Survivors: daughters, Denise Harper (Jason) and Dawn Garcia Edwards (Daniel); sons, Sony Garcia (Becky) and Allynn Garcia (Rachel); grandchildren, Donavynn Flowers, Ervin (Tre) Flowers, Ty Flowers, Joshua Edwards, Jonta Edwards, Deiona Edwards, Ava Edwards, Caitlyn Garcia and Jase Garcia; great-grandchildren, Kyren Flowers, Kamden Flowers, Krew Flowers, Koa Flowers, Ervin (Q) Flowers, Everett Flowers, Adelie Flowers, Cashtyn Edwards and Cayce Edwards; step-great grandchildren, Amelia, Gracie, Savannah and Jaxx; sister, Cynthia (Shorty) Caka and Debby Darilek.
