Hosted at the Yoakum Community Center on Friday, August 1, 2025, this event promises more than just BINGO cards and numbers—it offers the chance to win big, laugh loud, and make memories, all while supporting the good work of the Yoakum Area Chamber of Commerce.

Doors will swing open at 6:00 PM, with the first game beginning promptly at 7:00 PM. Whether you’re an experienced BINGO aficionado or just along for the brews and good company, this lively event has something for everyone.

Over $2,500 in prizes will be up for grabs, adding an extra layer of excitement to the classic game. And it’s not just about the BINGO—there will be a silent auction, door prize giveaways, and refreshments available for purchase, making it an all-around entertaining night out.

Armande Marguerite Clark – March 17, 1941 to June 20, 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Armande Marguerite Clark; a cherished mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who left this world peacefully on June 20, 2025, at the age of 84, in Victoria, Texas. Born on March 17, 1941, in La Malbaie, Quebec, Canada, Armande was the beloved daughter of Leon Daniel and Marie Jeanne Maltais.

Armande was a woman of remarkable strength and creativity. She spent her life nurturing her family and creating a warm and loving home. She met her husband, John M. Clark, a dedicated pipeliner, while he was working on a pipeline in Canada. Their love blossomed, and they married, embarking on a journey filled with shared dreams and adventures. Together, they welcomed a beautiful family into the world, although they faced heart-wrenching losses, including the passing of twin baby girls.

Armande was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John; as well as her sisters, Claudette Maltais Cardiff and Henriette Maltais Thomas. Despite these losses, she remained a pillar of strength for her family, who are left to cherish her memory. She is survived by her son, Robert Clark and his wife, Verena; her daughters, Michele Stehling and her husband, Chris and Melissa Clark Bruder and her partner, Ken; and step-son, Richard and his wife, Diana. She is also survived by her constant companion and fur baby, Coco. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren; Alexander, Dexter, Derek, Shannon, Jordan, Brandon, and Jessica, as well as her great-grandchildren; Cheyenne, Elijah, Josiah, Pretty, Isabelle, Austin, and Alice.

Armande was a devoted homemaker, dedicating her time to her family while also pursuing her passions. Her love for creativity shone through in her hobbies, which included porcelain doll-making, ceramics, knitting, sewing, crocheting, cooking, and baking. She had a special talent for creating beautiful things with her hands and a heart that poured love into every meal and every craft.

An avid lover of the outdoors, Armande enjoyed camping and fishing, often traveling to visit family, where she created lasting memories with those she loved. She was a spunky and loving individual, known for her artistic spirit and zest for life.

Her siblings; Norman Maltias, Jean-Guy Maltais, Yolande Sonier, Diane Gratton and Lisette Petrikowski remain to honor her memory and cherish the bonds they shared.

As we mourn the loss of Armande, we also celebrate the incredible woman she was. Her warmth, creativity, and love will forever be etched in our hearts. Armande faced her final years with grace in the battle against Alzheimer’s disease, showing her resilience even in the face of adversity.

A private memorial service will be held to honor Armande’s life, where family and close friends will gather to share memories and celebrate her legacy. She will be deeply missed, but her spirit will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to know her.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Harbor Hospice of Victoria or the Alzheimer’s Association in Armande’s name, helping to uphold her legacy of love and kindness.

Rest in peace, Armande Marguerite Clark. Your love will live on in our hearts forever.

After a challenging year marked by the loss of a beloved longtime employee and the passing of the company’s owner, the future of the store seemed uncertain. Yet, the heartfelt outpouring from loyal patrons proved to be a turning point.

YOAKUM, TEXAS — A coordinated law enforcement operation early Wednesday morning led to a narcotics-related arrest following the execution of a search and arrest warrant at a Yoakum residence.

The Yoakum Police Department spearheaded the effort, receiving critical support from the Austin County Sheriff’s Office, Lavaca County Sheriff’s Office, and the Cuero Police Department. The joint operation is part of an active investigation targeting illegal drug activity in the area.

Authorities confirmed that illegal substances were recovered during the raid and an individual connected to narcotics offenses was taken into custody. While the suspect’s identity has not yet been released, officials stated the arrest marks a significant step forward in ongoing efforts to combat local drug crimes.

 

Police officials also expressed appreciation for the ongoing support of residents, emphasizing their dedication to serving and safeguarding the community.

QUITMAN, TEXAS — Bobby Cole, a longtime East Texas dairy farmer and retired firefighter, has officially launched his campaign to challenge Governor Greg Abbott in the 2026 Texas gubernatorial election.

Cole, a Democrat and political newcomer, made his announcement with a fiery message aimed at what he calls a state government out of touch with working families. “If people are looking for a fighter to fight for them, that’s what I represent. I’ve been fighting my whole life,” Cole said in his campaign video.

Raised in Friendswood and now running a cattle and poultry operation in Quitman, Cole brings decades of agricultural and public service experience to the race. He spent over 20 years as a firefighter while maintaining his farm, a dual career he says shaped his leadership and resilience.

In his campaign launch, Cole criticized Abbott’s administration for prioritizing corporate interests over everyday Texans. “You’ve heard about bulls in a China shop? Well, that’s what Greg Abbott’s been doing to the people of the state of Texas,” he said.

Cole’s platform includes increasing funding for public schools, fixing the state’s power grid, cutting property taxes, and making Texas more affordable for working families. He describes himself as a “traditional Democrat,” drawing inspiration from Lyndon B. Johnson and Franklin D. Roosevelt.

While Cole faces a steep uphill battle against the well-established Abbott, who is seeking a fourth term, he believes his outsider status and grassroots appeal could resonate with voters tired of the status quo.

Thanks to expert training and fast action, EMS teams in Cuero are equipped to deliver critical interventions immediately upon arrival at the scene—often beginning life-saving efforts en route to the hospital. Their ability to initiate advanced resuscitation and stabilize patients before reaching the emergency department plays a crucial role in survival outcomes.

Mission: Lifeline EMS®, a flagship initiative of the American Heart Association, is designed to streamline emergency care systems for conditions where every minute counts—such as acute heart attacks and strokes. The program promotes collaboration between 911 responders, EMS teams, hospitals, and specialty physicians to ensure consistent, high-quality treatment from first contact to hospital discharge.

“The EMS professionals are a vital part of the survival chain when it comes to time-sensitive medical emergencies,” noted Dr. Kacey Kronenfeld, Chair of the AHA’s Mission: Lifeline EMS Taskforce. “Rapid recognition, early intervention, and coordination across regional systems make a significant difference in patient recovery and long-term health.”
