Following the devastation wrought by Hurricanes Helene and Milton, the people of North Carolina and Florida were left to confront an inconceivable level of destruction. In the midst of this turmoil, Dolly Parton and Taylor Swift stood out as beacons of hope. Their altruistic deeds and steadfast commitment to aiding the afflicted have left an indelible mark on the community, exemplifying the best of humanity.

In DeWitt County, we understand the ravages of flooding and the pain of losing everything. While our losses cannot be equated with the loss of life in North Carolina, the knowledge that individuals like Dolly Parton and Taylor Swift exist brings us hope.

Driven by their compassion and a genuine desire to make a difference, they opened their hearts and their personal bank accounts to support the victims of the hurricanes.  Dolly Parton donated $1 million to the Mountain Ways Foundation to support Hurricane Helene relief efforts.  Her donation was matched by the Dollywood Foundation and her businesses, bringing the total contribution to $2 million.

While others may have sought to capitalize on the situation for personal gain, these two ladies stood out as beacons of hope. Their actions were not motivated by a desire for recognition or praise, but by a deep sense of responsibility to their fellow human beings. They understood that in times of crisis, true leadership is demonstrated through acts of kindness and solidarity.

This is how it’s done!  It’s not done by spreading misinformation and stirring up hatred.  Their efforts cannot be overstated.
